Information for Hunters

Planning an African hunting safari involves preparation beyond booking dates. This page provides general guidance on what to expect and how to prepare. Specific requirements are communicated during the planning process.

Planning & Preparation

A successful safari begins with thorough planning. Key considerations include:

Fitness: African hunting often involves significant walking in challenging terrain and conditions. A reasonable level of fitness improves your experience and success rate.

Firearms & Ammunition: Bring appropriate calibres for your target species. We provide specific recommendations during planning. Ensure your rifles are properly sighted and you are proficient with them.

Documentation: Passports, visas, firearm permits, and hunting licenses are required. Requirements vary by country. We provide guidance on what is needed and assist with the process.

Insurance: Travel and medical insurance covering your safari activities is strongly recommended. Evacuation insurance is advised for remote areas.

Packing: We provide a detailed packing list appropriate to your specific safari, area, and season.

Safety & Ethics

Safety is paramount on every BC Safaris hunt. Our professional hunters are experienced in managing risk, but hunting dangerous game in wild Africa carries inherent hazards that cannot be eliminated.

We expect clients to:

  • Follow all instructions from the professional hunter
  • Exercise appropriate firearm discipline at all times
  • Communicate honestly about physical limitations or concerns
  • Accept that conditions may require adjustment to plans

We operate on strict ethical principles. If a situation arises where ethical standards, safety, or legal compliance may be compromised, we reserve the right to refuse or terminate the activity.

Legal Compliance

All BC Safaris hunting operations comply with the laws and regulations of the country where the hunt takes place. This includes:

  • Valid hunting licenses and permits
  • Compliance with quota allocations and species regulations
  • CITES documentation for applicable species
  • Firearm import/export requirements
  • Any additional national or regional requirements

Legal requirements vary significantly between countries. Specific requirements for your safari are communicated during planning and must be completed before arrival.

BC Safaris is based in Zimbabwe. Hunts conducted in other countries are subject to the laws of those jurisdictions.

Trophy Handling & Export

Field preparation of trophies is included in safari costs. This typically includes skinning, salting, and preparation for delivery to a taxidermist.

Taxidermy, dipping, packing, and international shipping are arranged separately and are the client’s responsibility. We work with reputable taxidermists and shipping agents and can facilitate introductions.

CITES permits are required for export of certain species. Processing times vary and must be factored into planning.
